Susan Murphey

Ms. Murphey is the founder and President of Essential WorkWellness, an ergonomic consulting company, working with businesses and healthcare organizations to bring about and sustain positive changes in work safety programs. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree, along with certification as an Ergonomics Evaluation Specialist and Ergonomic Compliance Director and extensive training in Work Injury Prevention and Workplace Ergonomics.

Susan recently led Technically Cool Computing (TCC), a pilot project sponsored by the Puget Sound Human Factors and Ergonomics Society to develop a computer ergonomics learning activity module to teach students how to evaluate their interactions with computer workstations in order to reduce their risk for musculoskeletal injuries and establish lifelong habits of safe computing. She is a published author and international speaker in ergonomics and work wellness programs. Her concern for work related injury among medical sonographers was expressed in her testimony to a panel of OSHA representatives during a hearing on occupational ergonomics in April 2000, and again in written testimony submitted in 2001. Ms. Murphey was content expert and session chair of the 2003 and 2016 Consensus Conferences and was instrumental in the writing of the Industry Standards for the Prevention of Work-Related Musculoskeletal Disorders in Sonography (pdf).

Susan is past President of the Puget Sound Human Factors and Ergonomics Society, and a member of the Association of Occupational Health Professionals in Healthcare, and Washington L&I Roundtable. She is a consultant for change who is passionate about helping others achieve a healthy work-life balance.
